#StillMarching

Why we will join the Women's March & why we feel more than ever that International Women's Day was an important day.

We were shocked and saddened by the rhetoric used during the past American election cycle, and thereafter, in which women, ethnical minorities, LGBT communities and refugees have been, and continue to be, openly insulted, demonized, and threatened. At the same time people are standing up and speaking out in defence of these groups and democratic values. In January we, together with 5 million others worldwide, joined the Women’s March: women rights are human rights, diversity should be celebrated and in our privileged position here in the Netherlands, we refuse to turn a blind eye.

In The Netherlands, the elections are coming up and like many others we are concerned. We therefore feel that International Women’s Day on the 8th of March was more important than ever and we will be joining the upcoming Women’s March on the 11th here in Amsterdam. This is why we’ve given eight stong women a platform to inspire us all with their views on the future and the role female leadership can play.

What does feminism look like in 2017? When are you actually a feminist and how relevant is feminism right now? Yoni asked eight inspiring women, the #ChangeMakers for their views. These women tell us how they experience being a woman professionally as well as in their private life. What do they think the world needs and how can female leadership play a role in the complex political and social issues we are facing. The Yoni #ChangeMakers are not afraid to take a stand and make themselves heard in order to inspire change.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. – Audre Lorde
